British Youth Championships

At possibly the best organised British Youth Championships in living memory, approximately 1,000 youngsters descended on the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield to compete in the BYC Finals.  Salle Ossian took it’s largest group of fencers so far.  In the under 12 boys, Rory McLellan took the bronze medal going out to the eventual winner 10/8 in a nail biting semi-final.  In the under 14 boys, Mark Alvarez was the eventual silver medallist in a very strong field.  In the under 16 boys, Toby, Sam and Ethan all fenced brilliantly well to make last 16 places in their first year at the under 16s.  However, they each showed considerable improvement and a strong trajectory that makes us feel certain they will be making the finals next year.  In the girls under 14, young Elsie Llewellyn fenced well to make a L16 placing, again with another year at this age group.  We also took our one and only epeeist, Jagoda, who fenced better each and every round though to a brilliant L16 finish in a strong competition.  Salle Ossian was the only Scottish Fencing club to bring medals home from the BYC’s this year, a great achievement.  Well done to everyone from Salle Ossian.
