Top Class Results in Reykjavik

We were most excited to hear about our fencers terrific results during the last weekend in May 2017.  Reykjavik, Iceland was the setting for the FIE International Satellite event.  Satellite events are designed to bridge the gap between national events and senior international A grade competitions.

In the women’s competition, some outstanding fencing saw Jess Corby, Kate Daykin and SJ Hampson all make it into the quarter-finals.  Jess and Kate drew each other and it was Jess who went through to the semi-finals from this match.  In the end, the final placings were 2nd, 3rd and 5th for SJ, Jess and Kate respectively.

Anthony Shek was our only male sabreur competing and after a slow start in the poule stage, picked things up to take out the no. 8 seed in the last 32 and narrowly missed out on a last 8 placing (and his first world cup points) by one hit!

This is very encouraging indeed and showing significant progress from all the fencers.
